About Sol Soils

Sol Soils makes small-batch, plant-specific soil blends for houseplant enthusiasts who understand the difference the right growing medium can make.

The company serves a passionate niche with strong potential for repeat purchases. Retailers that sell through their initial order are likely to restock, making consistent outreach and well-timed follow-up critical to building long-term customer value.

The Challenge

For a two-person team, spending the majority of each week on cold outreach simply wasn’t realistic. Sol Soils wanted to grow its wholesale business, but it wasn’t yet ready to take on the cost and long-term commitment of hiring a dedicated salesperson.

The challenge extended beyond acquiring new accounts. Wholesale growth also created more moments that required personal follow-up: checking in after a sample was delivered, confirming that an opening order arrived successfully, and reaching out when an existing retailer was likely ready to restock.

Those interactions were important to the white-glove service Sol Soils wanted to provide, but they were too numerous for a small team to track manually. The company needed a way to expand its sales capacity and stay attentive to every retailer without relying on spreadsheets, memory, or additional headcount.

The Solution

Overjoy gave Sol Soils a complete wholesale sales system at a reasonable cost, with little upfront risk and no need to commit to a full-time sales hire.

The team connected its Shopify and Faire accounts to Overjoy, embedded an interest form and store locator on its website, ran outbound campaigns, and activated ten automations across the customer journey.

Those automations respond to real customer activity and prompt the right follow-up at the right time. Sol Soils can automatically stay on top of:

Meanwhile, the store locator updates based on retail partners’ order histories, and every inbound, outbound, and existing customer opportunity flows into one connected pipeline.

Instead of asking the founders to remember every next step, Overjoy keeps the sales process moving in the background.

Results

Sol Soils has generated more than 2,500 wholesale opportunities through Overjoy, resulting in 100 new wholesale accounts and 250+ orders.

More importantly, the company has been able to produce those results while remaining a team of two. Overjoy closed the gap between the sales operation Sol Soils could manage manually and the one it needed to support its next stage of growth.

Automation has also helped the team strengthen its retailer experience. Customers receive timely, relevant follow-ups after samples, deliveries, and previous orders without the founders having to constantly check spreadsheets or reconstruct every account’s history.

Beyond lifecycle automation, Overjoy has also supported Sol Soils’ PR and visibility efforts. The team has used it to coordinate outreach tied to editorial opportunities and campaigns, helping contribute to placements such as a feature in Wired’s 2026 gift guide for plant lovers and gardeners.

“With a team of two, there’s no way we could spend most of our time on cold outreach or manually keep up with every lead, sample, delivery, and potential reorder. Overjoy closed that gap without the cost or long-term commitment of hiring a salesperson. It works in the background so we can provide the kind of attentive service we want every retailer to receive.”
